Video Games - DOOM 3 gone gold!

Just in case you didn't know, it's official, Doom 3 has gone gold! So if you are waiting for this game... August 5th on retailer stores, with some maybe as early as Aug 1-3.

If the game is good, I may have to buy a Shuttle w/ Athlon 64 and a nice nvidia/ati card. But it would have to be unbelievably good, otherwise, I'll pass.

VIDEO GAMES- Nintendo DS

Allright, I saw the E3 presentation this morning and... what I thought would flop will now sell.

What made me change my mind? It's not that it has dual screens... but that it does 3d, has built in wireless and more importantly, it can run all the GBA games for $150.

So yes, it will sell. It will probably sell quite well. And after thinking about it, I can start seeing a couple of uses for the dual screen after all, but I don't think that will be the main reason for it.

One thing is for sure, Nintendo's gamecube is still alive. I think Nintendo is doing better than anybody expected.

BTW, the screens are touchscreen (not sure if the bottom one or both)... I am sure street fighter II will play using the 4 buttons and fierce on the LCD's :-)

The presentation with statistics by Nintendo was laughable though. They skewed the charts visually so it looks much more than what it is, and (Regis?) the speaker seemed like he was a robot. Other than that, I think it will sell.

More goodness. I'll say it up front, some of those shots are already outdated.. they are showing the older interface look... but it's still goodness.

Video Games - Silent Hill 3 soundtrack

I can't believe I still have not played Silent Hill 3 (I played about 4 hours a while back, had temporarily lost my memory card and had to turn the ps2 off).

The game does come with its own soundtrack (thanks Konami!). Oh wow. Good very good. And has some random "super freaky quotes" from Claudia (the super crazy religious cult-biatch fanatic in the game).

"The world is teeming with unnecesary people... it's God's decision that I fight. As a knight of honor, as a protector of the seal, I sacrifice myself, to the blood of criminals..."

Freaky eh?

The music is like "Silent Hill" but more soft-rock oriented. I like it quite a bit. Particularly when crunching in the wee hours of the morning.... alone.. in the dark....

VIDEO GAMES - N-gage 2???

After the company yesterday announced a major press conference for 14th April in central London, Nokia’s Kirsi Kotilainen has hinted at a major redesign of the N-Gage.

Speaking at GDC Kotilainen indicated that the next iteration of the hardware would have its speaker and earpiece mounted on the face of the device and that users would no longer have to unplug the battery to install new game cartridges"

Nokia, please... just like.. give it up. I don't know, maybe there's a big market in Europe for this.. but frankly... I mean... can you truly compete against Nintendo & Sony here? Or maybe you know something marketwise that I don't, which is in spite of the infinitively smaller numbers you will have, you will still earn some cash.

VIDEO GAMES- where is Sven?

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, when ATARI was marketing the Jaguar, there used to be an Atari Jaguar mailing list. A guy by the name of Christian Svenson used to moderate it (and I think created it too), and he did E3 videos/reports.

Christian Svenson eventually lead Next Generation Online - and lead it to imho great heights. And then Raist started palacing in Next Generation Palace - that used "The Palace" chat software which allows for nice graphic backgrounds, graphic avatars whose text is enunciated from bubbles like a comic book coming from them....

And I was named a Wizard (moderator in Palace terms)... and I met a lot of "kids" (12-18 years) which to this day, many of them are still my friends and we keep in touch. In fact, a couple of them are my "new cool online game - let's play" buddies... from eons past to the present.

So my question is, where is Sven? Where is Christian Svenson? Anybody knows him? His wereabouts? Last thing I know is when he left Next Generation to join a position to be "da man" in a retailer-video game type publication.. that was years ago.

Anybody knows? Much appreciated.
